I'LL NOT CONTAIN YOU

Crop top from here, skirt from here, dress from here.

So, I think I owe you all a bit of an explanation for my month long hiatus. First, let me apologize for running off without so much as a single word. Thank you to a number of you who took time out of your own lives to write me an email asking if I was okay. I appreciate all of you and the endless kindness and support you’ve shown me over the past ten months, it was inconsiderate of me not to keep you in the loop. So, during the last little while there have been a couple of new developments in my life (some very, very good and some not so good), and I felt a short absence from the internet was necessary to give all of them my fullest attention.

During this time I have also been re-evaluating my goals as a blogger. Just before I left I was starting to feel disillusionment, then disinterest, with cataloguing my outfits and being involved in the fashion community, and the whole thing was just becoming tedious, like a chore. In order to salvage my love for it I needed to step away from it, and also from the culture of style blogging, and to reorganize my priorities online and offline.

I will be back with outfit posts in late spring, but for now I'd just like to share some of my photographs with you, relax in the sunshine and live in the moment. I hope you've all been well.

LITTLE GHOST

I found this little message in my library book. C'est triste.

I'm sorry for the brief hiatus, outfit photos are coming this week! What have you guys been up to these days?

SOUS LE SOLEIL

Boater hat- Vintage, Peach dress- Vintage, Nude t-strap heels- Secondhand, Suitcase- Secondhand

Why hello again, friends. This Wednesday afternoon I present to you my new (old?) dress, a 60s number I found at a thrift store for three dollars a week ago. Isn't it a dream? Amongst other purchases, I also bought two paintings. I have to show them to you sometime, they might be the best pieces I've ever found secondhand! They're both of the same woman, she has this little heart-shaped face with short bangs and big doe eyes, and she's wearing all this pastel Victorian garb. I think I love her expressions the most. In the first, she's flushed, like she's surprised to be caught. In the second, her eyelids are heavy and she's looking at the artist in this knowing way. God, I wish I knew who painted them. There's no signature or anything.

I've been collecting a ton of art from thrift stores recently. I love it. Sometimes you'll find paintings that children have made, and they're all sloppy and vibrant. That's just how they see the world. Or maybe you'll find paintings by boys who sat on porches in the summer heat and thought about the girl they loved, and tried to capture her likeness in a brush stroke.

IN BLOOM

Some photos from last summer. And since I haven't written anything substantial in a while, a life update: I've been working hard on a new project (I'm a Clinically Restless Project Starter) and tomorrow I'm shooting, under what I hope will be the sunniest of skies, for a -gasp- magazine feature. But more about that later.

I've also taken on the shudder-inducing task of redecorating since my living space was becoming a certifiable human deathtrap, what with my growing collection of stuff and the (very) little space I have to contain it presently. I also consumed an entire bag of croissants this morning... so... there's that.

BYE.

PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK

Creme blouse with ruffles and bow (SQUEAL)- Chicwish, Lace bloomers- Vintage, Hat- Vintage, Shoes- Vintage from mom

The weather is most merciful today! As I type this I am drinking tea in the sunshine with the window open. It's hard to remember the last time it was so warm.

So, yesterday evening my sister and I did some thrifting in the neighbourhood, I to add to my sparse spring wardrobe and she for some big shirts for a DIY project she's working on. Surprisingly, incredible luck in the decor department was to be had! Purchases of the evening included an elaborate pink lampshade (with tassels and beads!), floral jewelry box, velvet dress with white trim and a striped baby blue blouse. I am veering towards a strictly lacy, frilly, pastel sensibility of dress for the summer. Other things that are inspiring me at the moment: hazy 60s and 70s photos, cinematography and furniture, classical and folk music, yellow hues, soft light, and dolls. Is that shocking? No? I'm so predictable.

What's inspiring you for spring? Or fall, for my readers on the opposite hemisphere of this planet?

YES MA'AM

Jacket- Romwe, Boots- Aldo, Beret- Secondhand, Rainy day pin- Snow Stitched

A little while back, the lovely Guðmunda of Snow Stitched, the little Etsy shop she runs from Iceland, asked me if I'd like to choose a product sample from her collection of adorable hand stitched pins. I chose this little rainy day number! Be still my heart.

When she approached me about her store, it really got me thinking. I wish more independent artists/designers/small business owners would come out of the woodwork. There is such a scary monopoly on wardrobes of top bloggers by the same handful of companies- indeed, I work with some of them myself! But I feel very conscious of the disingenuousness of too many big time corporate sponsorships. Perhaps you too have some thoughts on the matter?
